.) Iona Prep: In a battle against one of Jersey’s toughest teams in Don Bosco, the Gaels were up for the challenge. The defending NY State Champs played well on both sides of the ball and kept the game within striking distance allowing for the late game heroics of Senior quarterback and Old Dominion commit Ajani Sheppard to help them complete their miraculous comeback. While competition is tough this year, the Gaels are still the team to beat.
.) Stepinac: Rising from #3 to #2 on our list is Westchester power, Archbishop Stepinac. This rise is thanks to the dominant display they put on in Rutgers. The Crusaders defense didn’t allow a touchdown, holding DePaul to 3 points the entire day. While the offense on the other hand continues to thrive under the leadership of Junior QB Will Currid. His connection with Senior WR Gjok Dedvukaj is one of the best in the league and creates opportunities throughout the entire offense.
.) St. Anthonys: It is a fact that the Friars have one of if not the the most Prolific offenses in the league, the question truly boils down to their defense. Rutgers commit Ian Strong and potential Five Star freshman Preston Carey are key difference makers on the defense but the rest of the group is still young and continuing to grow. Thankfully for them they have an experienced QB in Dante Torres, the most explosive wide receiver target in KJ Duff and plenty of other offensive weapons in Ian Strong, Alex Menghi, Kenyon Miles and many others.
.) Kellenberg: Probably the most underestimated team coming into the season, they just continue to win. Quarterback Devin Page continues to put up good numbers and WR/SS Dean Cannon makes plays on both sides of the ball.
.) Cardinal Hayes: While the 0-2 record is not great on paper, the team has talent. They pushed a good Pope John team in Rutgers losing 40-36 but this is a big week for them. Going up against a 3-0 Kellenberg this is their opportunity to right the ship.
.) Holy Trinity: It’s only right to get a boost after a big Overtime victory in Rutgers. The Titans are off to a hot 3-0 start to kick off the season. Star player Josiah Brown continues to be an matchup nightmare with his blazing speed and as a result has opened up opportunities for the rest of his teammates.
.) Farrell: The loss of star running back Messiah Burch is a massive blow to the Lions but the team still has talent. A win against a strong St. Anthonys team this week would give this team a huge boost.
.) Christ The King: A tough 0-3 start means that it is only up from here for the Royals. This past week they lost a tight matchup again St. John The Baptist and have another uphill battle on the horizon as they get ready to square off against Iona Prep.
.) Mt. St. Michael: The Mountaineer offense came out firing last week putting up 58 points in the win against St. Francis Prep. If they can continue to put up numbers like that they can do some damage.
.) Fordham Prep: Despite loosing last weeks matchup to Kellenberg the Rams are off to a hot start this season. It will be interesting to see the result of their matchup against Moore Catholic this Friday.
